LTC Alberto Baez arrived in 15 August 2024 and currently serves as the Deputy Commander for Latin America, Mobile District, US Army Corps of Engineers. The district encompasses over 1,250 personnel and delivers a program in excess of $2 billion across the full portfolio of USACE capabilities.
LTC Baez, originally from Mercedes, Argentina enlisted in the US Marine Corps in 1994 as an Infantryman, where he deployed with the 11th and 13th Marine Expeditionary Units (MEUs). Following a 4-year break in service, he enlisted in the US Army as a General Construction Equipment Operator in May 2002, assigned to the 528th Quartermaster Company, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA. In April 2003, he deployed to Operation Iraqi Freedom.
LTC Baez commissioned as an Engineer Officer in 2006 from Officer Candidate School, Fort Moore, GA and was assigned to the 19th Engineer Battalion, Fort Knox, KY. From 2006 to 2010, he served as the Battalion Rear Detachment Executive Officer, and Executive Officer, 15th Engineer Company. In June 2010, he served as the Validation Transition Team Executive Officer, 162nd Infantry Brigade, Kabul, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He then attended the Engineer Captain’s Career Course, Fort Leonard Wood, MO and was then assigned to the 4th Engineer Battalion, Fort Carson, CO. In March 2013, he commanded Headquarters Company, 4th Engineer Battalion, supporting a deployment to Operation Enduring Freedom. Upon re-deployment, he was then assigned to the Honolulu District, serving as a Deputy Area Engineer. Following graduation of the Command and General Staff College in June 2017, LTC Baez was assigned as the Chief of Current Operations and Engineer Operations for Joint Task Force Bravo (JTF-B), Soto Canto Air Base, Honduras. In June 2018, he was assigned as the Executive Officer, 65th Engineer Battalion, Fort Shafter, HI. In June 2020, LTC Baez served as the Area Commander – Honduras, US Army Corps of Engineers Mobile District. After Honduras, he was assigned as the Deputy Commander, Honolulu District, from 2021 to 2023. He most recently served as the Combat Readiness Evaluations Section Chief, NATO LANDCOM, Izmir, Turkey.
LTC Baez has a B.S. in Technology Management from Western Kentucky University and a M.S. in Geological Engineering from the Missouri University of Science and Technology.
LTC Baez’s personal awards include the Bronze Star (1 oak leaf cluster), the Defense Meritorious Service Medal (1 oak leaf cluster), the Meritorious Service Medal (2 oak leaf cluster), the Army Commendation Medal (1 oak leaf cluster), the Army Achievement Medal (3 oak leaf clusters), the Navy Achievement Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Meritorious Unit Citation, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, the Combat Action Badge, the Parachutist Badge and Air Assault Badge.
LTC Baez has two children: Tyler (26) and Isabel (19).
