Bluebird Monitoring Volunteer Opportunities

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) at West Point Project is seeking volunteers to assist with bluebird nesting box monitoring during the March to August breeding season. Prospective volunteers should be available to inspect their assigned nesting boxes every two weeks during the breeding season. USACE will provide data logs and maps to the locations of the assigned nesting boxes. [Read More]

Personal Watercraft and Boating Safety Course

The US Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 81, in partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at West Point Lake, will conduct a personal watercraft and boating safety course at the West Point Project Management Office on April 16 and 18, 2013 from 6:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m., Eastern Standard Time. This course will provide information on legal requirements, navigation rules, preventing personal watercraft and boating accidents, and new boating laws. [Read More]

JIM WOODRUFF LOCK TO REMAIN CLOSED FOR REPAIRS

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District announced today the Jim Woodruff Lock located on the Apalachicola River in Chattahoochee, Florida will remain closed to all vessels as much needed repairs continue. The lock closed on December 10, 2012 and is expected to remain closed through April 30, 2013. [Read More]

USACE hosts Walter F. George/George W. Andrews 50th Anniversary celebration

MOBILE, Ala. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has scheduled a ceremony Thursday, March 21 10:00 a.m. EST at the Walter F. George Powerhouse to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the locks and dams at Walter F. George and George W. Andrews. Corps Suspends Drought Operations on the Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint River Basin

Drought conditions throughout many areas of the Southeastern United States have begun to improve. Rainfall has been above normal for the past month throughout the Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint (ACF) River system, which has led to increased inflows into the lakes and the river system. Under the provisions of the Revised Interim Operations Plan (RIOP), when the composite conservation storage in the ACF system enters Zone 1 along with favorable hydrologic conditions, drought operations are suspended and normal operations resume.
