MOBILE, Ala. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Mobile District announced March 12, 2019 there will be a delay in the opening of numerous USACE-managed campgrounds and Day Use areas at Allatoona Lake in Cartersville, Georgia tentatively until March 29. This is due to the impacts of flooding and possible continued rainfall in the region.
“The safety of visitors to Allatoona Lake is our priority,” said Rusty Simmons, chief ranger at Allatoona Lake. “When the water recedes, these areas will need to be cleaned, debris removed, and electrical systems evaluated.”
Campgrounds affected:
- Sweetwater Campground
- Victoria Campground
- McKaskey Campground
- Payne Campground
Note: McKinney Campground is currently open but 76 of 150 sites have been affected by the high water.
All USACE-managed Day Use areas are currently closed except the following:
- Riverside
- Cooper Furnace
- Stamp Boat Ramp
- Blockhouse Ramp
All reservations at campgrounds or on campsites affected will be cancelled and customers will receive a full refund.
