    The city of Manati now has fresh drinking water for its 50,000 residents, including the patients of a Federal Medical Shelter and the local hospital, thanks to the efforts of Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority (PRASA), local authorities, and members of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
  • Corps of Engineers installs first Blue Roof in Puerto Rico

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) installed the first temporary roof to protect a damaged structure, today. The first blue roof was installed on the Multy Medical Facilities in San Juan. Having the roof protected will allow the hospital to open up additional patient beds/rooms that were previously unavailable because of the damaged roof.
  • Department of Defense agencies join forces to repair Guajataca Dam

    At the direction of the Federal Emergency Management Agency and in support of the Government of Puerto Rico, the U.S Army Corps of Engineers, the Department of Defense, and the Puerto Rico Energy and Power Authority (PREPA) airlifted the first jersey barriers Monday, to slow the erosion of the damaged spillway at the Guajataca Dam. Keeping the spillway functional is important because so that the water will channel around the dam when the water rises too close to the top of the dam.

    U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Mobile District deployed its first wave of personnel to Puerto Rico Sunday to stand up the Puerto Rico Recovery Field Office (RFO) that will oversee the management and execution of FEMA recovery missions to restore the essential public services and facilities.

    MOBILE, Ala. –The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District, announced today that survey contractors with Maptech, Inc. have begun work to reset missing boundary monuments and properly identify sections of boundary line at West Point Lake Project. This work is part of an ongoing effort to ensure that the Project’s boundary is accurate and easily identifiable.
  • Army Corps of Engineers waives fees on National Public Lands Day, Sept. 30

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) announced today that it will waive day use fees normally charged at boat launch ramps and swimming beaches at its recreation areas nationwide in recognition of National Public Lands Day on Saturday, Sept. 30. The waiver does not apply to camping and camping-related services, or fees for specialized facilities such as group picnic shelters. Other agencies and partners that manage recreation areas located on USACE lands are encouraged, but not required, to comply with this waiver of day use fees in the areas they manage.
  • Prepositioning of debris removal experts accelerates Hurricane Irma recovery operations

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers preemptively mobilized Mobile District Emergency Management Chief Hubert “Bo” Ansley to the U.S. Virgin Islands, and civil engineer Herb Bullock to Puerto Rico, Sept. 4, to accelerate Hurricane Irma recovery operations. At the time, Hurricane Irma was still two days away, but the Corps of Engineers made it a priority to get someone on the ground to begin initial damage assessments, immediately following the storm.
  • Mobile District’s reservoirs in western Georgia available for flood-control storage

    The commander of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Mobile District said today that all of the district’s reservoirs have available flood-storage capacity to handle the forecasted rainfall from Hurricane Irma, which is expected to drop four to eight inches of rain on western Georgia.
