  • Bay St Louis Seawall Ribbon Cutting

    MOBILE, Ala.--The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District and its partners, the State of Mississippi, Hancock County and the City of Bay St Louis will officially host a Ribbon Cutting for the newly constructed Bay St Louis Seawall on April 4, at 10 a.m near downtown Bay St Louis, MS.

    MOBILE, Ala. – Persistent dry conditions in the Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint (ACF) rivers basin is keeping lake levels below normal.
  • Flow reduction extension: USACE approves GA request

    MOBILE, Ala. – On Nov. 7, 2011 the Georgia Department of Natural Resources requested the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reduce water quality releases from Lake Sidney Lanier at Buford Dam from 750 cubic feet per second (cfs) to 650 cfs through March 31, 2012 in order to conserve as much storage as possible in Lake Lanier.
  • The Corps Christens Its Newest Vessel

    Mobile, Ala. -The Mobile District of the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers will christen its newest vessel on Mar. 30 at 1:30 p.m. at 180 Chewalla Dr. Eufaula, Alabama near the U. S. Coast Guard Station. The 58 foot long, 770 horsepower vessel will be named the Motor Vessel General Irwin in honor of William Irwin. Mr. Irwin was a businessman, landowner, and a commander of the Alabama militia during the Indian Wars of the early 1800’s.
  • Bluebird Monitoring Volunteer Opportunities

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at West Point Project is seeking volunteers to assist with bluebird nesting box monitoring during the March to August breeding season.
  • Corps partnerships enhance fish migration

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District has signed a MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING (MOU) for a cooperative fish passage strategy at the Jim Woodruff Lock and Dam (JWLD) with The Nature Conservancy, US Fish and Wildlife Service, NOAA National Marine Fisheries Service, Georgia Department of Natural Resources and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to improve opportunities for successful fish migration in the Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint (ACF) River basin.
  • Prescribed Burning of Timberlands Underway at West Point Project

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at West Point Project announced today that prescribed burning of selected timber stands around the reservoir is underway. Each winter, the Corps works with Forestry Commissions in both Alabama and Georgia using controlled burning to improve wildlife habitat on the public property surrounding the reservoir.

    The US Army Corps of Engineers encourages water safety by purchasing a life jacket this Fathers’ Day. Ninety percent of those who drown in Corps lakes and rivers were not wearing a life jacket. Many of those who drown knew how to swim, but did not know how to swim well, or did not know their physical limits, and did not survive.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, West Point Project, announced that vehicular and pedestrian traffic across the dam road will be closed from June 20 – 25, to ensure public safety as contractors replace the hydraulic power unit for the spillway gates.
