Bay St Louis Seawall Ribbon Cutting

MOBILE, Ala.--The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District and its partners, the State of Mississippi, Hancock County and the City of Bay St Louis will officially host a Ribbon Cutting for the newly constructed Bay St Louis Seawall on April 4, at 10 a.m near downtown Bay St Louis, MS.  

The new seawall extends 6,500 feet southward from highway 90 along the shore of St Louis Bay.  Construction of the stepped seawall required 16,000 cubic yards of concrete, 600 tons of reinforcing steel and 60,000 cubic yards of beach sand that provides added protection at the wall’s base.  

The project construction, costing $19 million, began in November 2010 and is under contract to Hemphill-Key of Florence, MS.. The project will reduce the risk of damages from storm surges. The public is invited to attend...
