  • USACE announces new national water safety campaign

    MOBILE, Ala. – The summer recreation season has begun and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Mobile District, urges its recreating public to be safe. “Memorial Day through Labor Day is the peak recreation season at our lakes and rivers project,” said Public Affairs Officer E. Patrick Robbins, Mobile District. USACE recently announced a new national adult water safety campaign. The campaign, titled “Life Jackets Worn…Nobody Mourns,” is targeted toward adult males.
  • Colonel James A. DeLapp assumed command of Mobile District

    MOBILE, Ala. – Colonel James A. DeLapp assumed command as the 52nd District Engineer in the history of the Mobile District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, in a ceremony today at the Renaissance Mobile Riverview. COL DeLapp succeeds COL Jon J. Chytka, who has been the Commander and District Engineer since Aug. 1, 2013.

    MOBILE, Ala. - The Mobile District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced today that George W. Andrews Lock at mile 153.2 on the Chattahoochee River will be closed to boat traffic until further notice.
  • Army Corps of Engineers seeks public comments on on proposal to renew and revise nationwide permits

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) announced today it is seeking comments on its proposal to renew and revise 50 nationwide permits for work in wetlands and other waters that are regulated by Section 404 of the Clean Water Act and/or Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899. In addition, USACE is proposing to issue two new nationwide permits that pertain to authorizing the removal of low-head dams and the construction and maintenance of living shorelines.
  • West Point Lake: USACE announced continued decline in level projected for June 2016

    MOBILE, Ala.- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Mobile District announced today that West Point Lake will most likely not reach a full pool of 635 mean sea level (msl) by June 1. Today’s reservoir level is 632.31 and is forecast to fall near 630 msl over the next two weeks unless the Chattahoochee river basin receives significant rainfall.
  • USACE Visitor Center Open on Weekends through Summer Season

    MOBILE, Ala. –The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Mobile District, West Point Project Management Office’s Visitor Center will begin its summer operations schedule on Saturday April 2, 2016 through September 25, 2016. Hours of operations will be 8 am – 4:30pm EST, seven days a week.
  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to extend Public Scoping comment period for the Mobile Harbor General Reevaluation Report

    MOBILE, Ala. –The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Mobile District will extend the public scoping comment period to February 29, 2016 for the General Reevaluation Report to determine the feasibility of widening and deepening the Mobile Harbor channel to its authorized dimensions based on the request of several different entities.
  • The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Extends Comment Period for the Draft Environmental Impact Statement and Water Control Manual for the Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint River Basin

    MOBILE, Ala. –The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District, has extended the comment period for the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) and Water Control Manual (WCM) for the Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint River Basin until January 30, 2016.
  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announces changes in recreation day use fees and Special Use Permit Fees

    MOBILE, Ala. - U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Mobile District announced on January 1, 2016, the recreation day use fees charged for boat launches and swimming beaches managed by USACE will change to a simpler fee structure. The fee for the USACE annual pass to these facilities will also change. Some locations may also see a change in camping fees and the fee for a Special Use Permit, which covers events, facilities and activities.
  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to hold Public Scoping Meeting on Mobile Harbor General Reevaluation Report

    MOBILE, Ala. –The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Mobile District will hold a public Scoping Meeting Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at the Mobile Cruise Terminal on Water Street from 5 until 8 p.m. to begin the process of conducting a General Reevaluation Report to determine the feasibility of widening and deepening the Mobile Harbor channel to its authorized dimensions.
