    U.S. Army Corps of Engineers rangers, sheriff's deputies, police officers, firefighters, Coast Guard auxiliary, Department of Natural Resources, and emergency management services from Hall, Forsythe, and Gwinnett counties met June 30th, 2022 to sync operational plans and resources for the expected rise in visitation volume on Lake Sidney Lanier.

    Lanier Water Safety Task Force prep for 4th of July Weekend

    Members of the Lake Lanier Water Safety Task Force met today to discuss emergency services, rescue support, and patrol duties during the upcoming 4th of July weekend.
  • Elizabeth Godsey, Engineering Lead for Coastal Engineering and Regional Sediment Management, was named the recipient of the USACE 2022 Hydrology, Hydraulics and Coastal Community of Practice (HH&C CoP) Professional of the Year Award in Mobile, Alabama on June 28, 2022. Godsey was the first Coastal Engineer or Practitioner in USACE to receive the award.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Transatlantic Division hosted a delegation for the Qatar Emiri Corps of Engineers (QECE) at Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida, June 9.

    ERDC & Mobile Team to Recruit Citizen Scientists in Gulf Shores

    As part of gaining new citizen scientists, the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC), along with the Mobile District took part in a SandSnap presentation at the Thomas B. Norton Library in Gulf Shores, Alabama, to encourage kids to take part in the SandSnap project when they go to the beach.

  • Army Civil Works announces publication of policy initiatives to modernize the Corps’ Civil Works program

    The Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works announced a series of priority policy initiatives to modernize the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Civil Works program. An outreach campaign, with public and tribal virtual meetings, will be conducted in June and July to gather input to inform future potential policy decision-making related to a number of related initiatives, and written comments will be gathered in a public docket in the Federal Register over a 60-day comment period.

    Mobile LDP Visits Tyndall Area Office, Team Tyndall

    One of the goals of the Mobile District’s Leadership Development Program is to expose future leaders to different leadership styles and the importance of getting their people working as a team to accomplish tasks, and provide on-time, on-budget products to customers.

    The Mobile District is one of the many districts in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which is responsible for a multitude of water projects and maintaining rivers, and bays navigable for commercial and recreational traffic.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District Lake Sidney Lanier project office hosted the 5th Ranger Training Battalion May 3 and 5, as the rangers complete their annual water proficiency training at the lake.

    JALBTCX Flies National Data Gathering Mission, Key Role in Mobile District Success

    In order for U.S. Army Corps of Engineers projects to be successful, the engineers who work for the Corps need all of the information they can gather, to make wise decisions.

    Trotter has proven to be a “perfect fit” for the Mobile District

    In order to put a puzzle together, you must make sure you have all of the pieces and ensure those pieces fit together. If the pieces don’t fit or if you don’t have all the pieces, you will have a very difficult time solving and putting said puzzle together. You will never get to see the complete project, that beautiful picture nor the satisfaction of a solved puzzle.

    Beneficial Use of Dredged Material

    When feasible, dredged material can be used as a resource rather than treated as a waste product. Beneficial uses can include habitat creation and restoration, beach nourishment, landfill cover, and land site remediation.

    Commentary: Martin Luther King Jr.

    On August 28, 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial after a peaceful march in Washington to more than 250,000 Americans. Dr. King is a symbol of hope and change around the world because of his leadership and intelligence throughout the civil rights movement. There are hundreds of people who contributed to the civil rights movement, but Dr. King’s sacrifices and actions catapulted the world in a direction of diversity and equality.
