USACE, USCG, GEORGIA DNR OFFER MORE SESSIONS FOR BOATING SAFETY COURSE

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources and U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 08-01, in partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at West Point Lake, will conduct a personal watercraft and boating safety course June 8, July 13 and Aug. 10, 2019 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the West Point Lake Project Management Office, located at 500 Resource Management Drive in West Point, Georgia.

A maximum of 25 participants can be accommodated for each course on a first come, first served basis. Preregistration is necessary through Georgia DNR Website. The USCG Auxiliary classes are free, and upon completion of the course, students will receive a free USACE Annual Day Use Pass.

The boating safety course will provide information on legal requirements, navigation rules, preventing personal watercraft and boating accidents, and new boating laws. Participants completing the course will receive a certificate from Georgia DNR. This course meets Georgia’s law that requires completion of a safe boating course for persons born after Jan. 1, 1998, who wish to operate a personal watercraft or boat without adult supervision.

Alabama residents taking the course and receiving a certificate will be exempt from Alabama boating license written exam requirement.
