MOBILE, Ala. – This year's Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month, the U.S. Army's campaign theme is Change Through Unity: Empower. Protect. Prevent. The 2024 SAAPM campaign highlights the importance of fostering a culture of respect for all.
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District Commander Col. Jeremy Chapman and Victim Advocate Maryanna Kuehne stepped forward to lead April's observance of SAAPM within the district. They set the tone and led by example as they signed the 2024 SAAPM USACE Proclamation, affirming the district's committed dedication to creating a culture of safety, respect, and accountability.
The signing of the 2024 SAAPM Proclamation served as a symbolic gesture and marked the commencement of a month-long campaign. Throughout April, the District committed to prioritizing activities aimed to raise awareness, education, and advocacy for proactive measures to prevent sexual assault.
"This is a big deal for the Army, our District, and across the corps," said Chapman. “This is about respect for our teammates and working together to prevent sexual assault and harassment in our District.”
Echoing this sentiment, Kuehne highlighted multiple activities planned for April to educate and promote this year's theme.
“We encourage everyone to wear teal every Tuesday throughout the month of April as a visible symbol of support and awareness,” said Kuehne. “In unity, the Mobile District is dedicated to empowering, protecting, and preventing to create an environment where every individual can thrive free from the threat of sexual violence.”
