    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Mobile District is preparing for the closure of USACE-operated campgrounds and day-use parks today Tuesday, October 1, because of the shutdown of the federal government for lack of fiscal 2014 funding legislation.
  • Corps announces changes to Lock Schedules on the Alabama River

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Mobile District announced today navigation lock changes on the Alabama River. Beginning the week of October 6, 2013 all navigation locks on the Alabama River will change to fall/winter schedules. R. F. Henry, Millers Ferry, and Claiborne Locks will change to Monday-Thursday operations, 6 a.m.- 4 p.m. Central Standard Time. This schedule will continue until March 2014.
  • Corps of Engineers waives fees on National Public Lands Day, Sept. 28

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Mobile District announced today that it will waive day use fees at its more than 2,400 USACE-operated recreation areas nationwide in recognition of National Public Lands Day on Sept. 28. On this day, fees normally charged at boat launch ramps and swimming beaches will be waived.
  • USACE reopens Sawnee Campground

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District will be opening Sawnee Campground on Lake Sidney Lanier on September 20, 2013 until March 23, 2014 on a first-come, first served basis. Campers will have the opportunity to pick a campsite of their liking and pay, review fees, rules and regulations, or obtain maps of the park and lake at the self-service registration station by the gatehouse.
  • Colonel Jon J. Chytka Takes Command of Mobile District

    Colonel Jon J. Chytka assumes command as the 51st District Engineer in the history of the Mobile District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, in a ceremony Aug. 1, 2013 at the Alabama Cruise Terminal. Chytka succeeds Colonel Steven J. Roemhildt, who had been the commander and district engineer since May 26, 2010.
  • CHATTAHOOCHEE RIVER FLOWS WILL BE UP AND CONSTANT FROM THURSDAY EVENING UNTIL NOON ON FRIDAY

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced today the river flows in the Chattahoochee River below Buford Dam will be a constant 1,000 cubic feet per second through approximately 5 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) on 27 June to noon EST 28 June. There will be no hydropower generation during that period.
  • Jim Woodruff Lock and Dam to Reopen

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District announced today the Jim Woodruff Lock and Dam located on the Apalachicola River in Chattahoochee, Fla., will reopen to all vessels. The lock will reopen on Saturday, April 27. The lock was closed on December 10, 2012 to allow repairs to the hydraulic system that opens and closes the lock gates.
  • R. Shaefer Heard Day Use Park and West Point Dam Road to be Closed April 26-28

    The US Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District announces today, the R. Shaefer Heard Day Use Park and the road across West Point Dam will be closed to all vehicular traffic, at 8 p.m Friday April 26 thru 1 pm on Sunday April 28 for the 10th Annual West Point Lake Triathlon.
  • Okatibbee Lake reduces Operations at a Campground, a Day Use Area and Four Beaches

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District, announced today that one campground, a day use area and four beaches at Okatibbee Lake will have reduced hours for the upcoming recreation season.
  • Bluebird Monitoring Volunteer Opportunities

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) at West Point Project is seeking volunteers to assist with bluebird nesting box monitoring during the March to August breeding season. Prospective volunteers should be available to inspect their assigned nesting boxes every two weeks during the breeding season. USACE will provide data logs and maps to the locations of the assigned nesting boxes.
