Boating

Whether you are on a houseboat, fishing boat, personal watercraft, sailboat or canoe, there is plenty of room for everyone Lake Sidney Lanier. Lake Lanier features 39,000 acres of water and 76 boat ramps to make your visit even more enjoyable. User fees are charged for launching at most boat ramps.

Most boat ramps are open year-round, but may close due to low water levels. Please refer to the Boat Ramp Elevation page in the related links menu for more information on lake levels and boat ramps.

The lake also has 10 marinas that offer fuel, boat storage, repair services, snacks and supplies for your last minute needs. If you don’t have a boat check with the marinas for rentals. Events such as tournaments, sailing regattas and water carnivals may require a permit from the Corps of Engineers and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.

To help the public find their way around Lake Lanier, you can find navigation maps by visiting our on-line map room. While standard navigation signs mark the lake’s hazardous areas, boaters should be watchful for submerged stumps, logs, rock and shallow water. Report all navigation hazards immediately to the Corps of Engineers at (770) 945-9531.

The Corps promotes safe boating and encourages you to obey the "rules of the road" as well as be courteous to other lake users. All federal, state and local laws are enforced at Lake Lanier. County, state and federal enforcement officers patrol the lake on a routine basis. Boaters are reminded that boating under the influence of alcoholic beverages is a serious offense that may result in stiff penalties and possible loss of boating privileges.
