Swift Response from Carters Dam Powerhouse Team

MOBILE, Ala. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Mobile District would like to highlight the Carter’s Lake powerhouse team for their swift efforts during a recent emergency regarding a re-regulation spill gate that was stuck in the open position on January 17, 2023.

The result of 15,000 - 18,000 cubic feet per second flowing through the open gate resulted in flooding in Gordon, Gilmer, and Murray County. All areas normally prone to flooding during heavy rain events.

The quick response from Gregory Lane, Powerhouse Maintenance Supervisor, and his team at the Carter’s Dam powerhouse to close the nonfunctioning spill gate at the re-regulation dam in approximately 45 minutes saved countless resources and possibly lives not only around the lake itself but down river as well.
