Lake Lanier reduces operations at four campgrounds

Published April 5, 2013

MOBILE, Ala.--The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District, announced today that four camping areas at Lake Sidney Lanier will be open only four days per week for the upcoming recreation season.

“To keep our recreation operations within the budget we have received for this year it will be necessary to reduce days of availability at these four facilities and to reduce service (i.e. mowing, gate attendants’ hours, trash pick-up, etc) at several facilities at Lake Lanier,” said E. Patrick Robbins, Public Affairs Officer, Mobile District.  “These reductions are not related to sequestration but are required due to flat budgets and increased costs.”

USACE operates 6 full service camping areas at the lake.  Camping fees range from $18 to $32 per night for sites with water and 50 amp electric hookups.

  • Bald Ridge and Old Federal campgrounds open April 10 and will be taking reservations throughout the week as normal.
  • Bolding Mill, Van Pugh South, Duckett Mill, and Sawnee campgrounds will be open from 12 p.m. Thursdays until 3 p.m. on Sundays (except for extended holiday weekends on Memorial Day, and Labor Day) starting April 11.

For more information on reservations visit or call 1-877-444-6777. Reservations can be made from 2 to 180 days in advance and include holidays. No additional fees are charged to make reservations; however, there is a $10 cancellation charge.

Reservations can be made by Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover cards.
