Old Allatoona Road: USACE announces temporary closure

Published April 29, 2011

MOBILE, Ala. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District, Allatoona Lake Operations Project Management Office has scheduled a temporary closure of Old Allatoona Road from May 2 to Aug. 5 due to needed repairs of the dike.

“Most of the work is scheduled to take place between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday through Friday; however, weather or other conditions could extend the hours or require weekend work to complete the repairs in a timely manner,” Assistant Operations Project Manager J. Douglas Evans said.

The repairs include replenishing the current rip-rap section and placing concrete mats on the dike. Repairs will begin on the south end of the dike near Allatoona Landing Marina and work northward toward Allatoona Pass.

“Every effort will be made to eliminate as many traffic issues as possible,” Evans said. “One lane of traffic will be open at all times. When large trucks are making supply deliveries, there may be very short closures of both lanes.”

Questions and/or comments may be directed to the Allatoona Lake Operations Project Management Office at 678-721-6700.
