MOBILE, Ala. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Demopolis Site Office in Demopolis, Ala. is supporting the efforts of RiverWorks Discovery, an educational, children-focused program on the commerce, culture and conservation of America’s rivers April 3-25 at the Demopolis Public Library for the general public.

“We are pleased to support efforts in educating the public, especially young people, about some of our nation’s rivers,” said Valencia Young, a park ranger for USACE. “Children and their families can enjoy an exploration into the world of inland waterways with hands-on activities that include large-scale vessel puzzles, a working lock and dam model and other activities that introduce the physics of water.”

According to Young, RiverWorks Discovery and sponsor Alabama Power will provide several educational activities and exhibits for the public’s participation. USACE park rangers will be on site during the library’s normal operation hours to help facilitate group visits and discuss the importance of rivers. The library’s hours of operation are 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Wednesday and Saturday.
