Port of Gulfport; USACE to hold Scoping Meeting for Environmental Impact Statement

MOBILE, Ala. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District, invites the public to participate in a scoping meeting for the Environmental Impact Statement for the Port of Gulfport Expansion Project, Harrison County, Mississippi. The meeting will take place on Thursday, March 31, from 5:30 – 8 p.m., at the University of Southern Mississippi, Fleming Education Center Auditorium, 730 East Beach Boulevard, Long Beach, Miss.

The agenda for the meeting is as follows:

5:30 – 6:30 p.m.   Open house

6:30 – 7:00 p.m.   Presentations

7:00 – 8:00 p.m.   Public comment session

Displays and other information will be available. Project personnel will be present to discuss the proposed project and the EIS process. Court reporters will be available to transcribe statements from those wishing to provide verbal comments, or attendees may submit written comments at the meeting. Interpretation services for Spanish and Vietnamese speakers will be provided.

Individuals who cannot attend the meeting can submit comments on the proposed scope and alternatives that the EIS will consider during the comment period, March 11 through April 14, 2011.
