2011 Recreation season at West Point Project

MOBILE,  Ala.--The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers staff at West Point Project is pleased to announce the upcoming 2011 recreation area schedule.  The Corps invites you and your family to take a break from the frantic and fast pace of modern life by getting outside and immersing yourselves in the wonders of nature.  West Point Project is the perfect location to enjoy a variety of recreational opportunities including camping, picnicking, fishing, canoeing, hiking, biking, playing ball or reading your favorite book.  The Corps manages five campgrounds and twenty-four day use parks around the Project for public enjoyment.  The West Point Project 2011 recreation area schedule is listed below with telephone numbers.

Camping is great way to enjoy the great outdoors. Use fees for single campsites with utility hook-ups are $24 per night while double campsites are $48 per night, and fees for primitive campsites are $16 per night. Individual campsites may be reserved up to 6 months in advance of the arrival date by calling the National Recreation Reservation System at 1-887-444-6777 or via the internet at www.Recreation.gov

Many day use opportunities are also available.  Swimming areas located at Yellowjacket Creek, Earl Cook and Rocky Point Recreation Areas will open for use on April 30.   The fee for the use of facilities in these areas is $4 per vehicle. Fishing is also a favorite activity at West Point Lake with twenty-four parks offering boat-launching ramps.  Seven of these parks require the payment of a $3 boat-launching fee.  Fishing piers are available at Rocky Point Recreation Area and McGee Bridge Park. 

Nine picnic shelters around the lake may be reserved for fees ranging from $50 - $150 per day.  Shelters may be reserved at any time during the entire 2011 calendar year by contacting the Project Management Office.  Shelters must be reserved at least 5 days in advance and payment must be made at the time of the shelter reservation. Payment may be made using cash, check, or credit card.

Frequent users of recreation areas and/or boat launching ramps may wish to purchase an Annual Day Use Pass. These passes, which are good for one year from the date of purchase, allow the purchaser to use any park where a day use fee is charged at no additional cost.  Passes are available at the Project Management Office for $30 each, and may be purchased in person or by telephone using a major credit card.
