MOBILE, Ala. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Mobile District, in collaboration with Forsyth and Hall counties, will reopen seven additional parks at Lake Lanier in time for the July 4th holiday weekend.
With these reopening’s, 64 out of the 66 total parks around the lake will be accessible to the public for the holiday. The parks are reopening under one-year Challenge Cost Share Cooperative Management Agreements (CCSMAs), ensuring continued public access through collaborative management efforts.
“I appreciate the support of Hall County and Forsyth County in helping us get these parks open,” said Tim Rainey, Lake Lanier Project Manager. “We share a common goal of providing quality recreational opportunities to the public, and this partnership makes that possible.”
Under the CCSMAs, Forsyth County will assist with management of Keith’s Bridge, Long Hollow, and Two-Mile Creek parks, while Hall County will oversee Little River, Robinson, and Mountain View parks.
In addition to the six parks reopening under county management, Burton Mill Park will temporarily open from July 4 through July 7, supported by reallocated USACE personnel and dedicated volunteers.
Two parks—Van Pugh North, Van Pugh South —will remain closed. These closures will continue until we secure additional staffing resources. Hiring efforts are currently underway to support long-term park operations.
This initiative underscores USACE’s ongoing commitment to working closely with local partners to balance public safety, environmental stewardship, and recreational access at Lake Lanier.
