FORT GAINES, GA. – Cotton Hill Campground, a full-service recreation site on the shores of Walter F. George Reservoir, will officially reopen to the public on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at 7:00 a.m., just in time for the peak summer season.

Campsite reservations will be available starting Wednesday, June 25, at 10:00 a.m. through the Recreation.gov website.

Known for its spacious campsites and scenic lakefront views, Cotton Hill offers full hookups with water, electric, and sewer access at every site, along with amenities such as paved pads, restrooms with showers, picnic areas, swim beaches, boat ramps, and easy shoreline access. It is one of the few campgrounds in the region to offer this level of service to both RV and tent campers.

The campground has been closed for a major infrastructure upgrade to replace aging water lines, addressing recurring maintenance issues that impacted service reliability over the past three years. The project ensures safer, more consistent water access throughout the campground.

Reopening the site restores a key outdoor recreation destination for the community and surrounding region. Cotton Hill supports local tourism and provides affordable lake access for  families, anglers, boaters, and RV campers.

For more information or to reserve a campsite, visit Recreation.gov or call the Walter F. George Project Management Office at (229) 768-2516.
