MOBILE, Ala. –  The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District and the Lake Sidney Lanier Resource Office are closing Buford Dam Park for Labor Day Weekend due to a failed beach water test.

During routine water sampling, the beach area at Buford Dam Park indicated E. coli levels exceeding water quality standards. The presence of higher levels of E. coli may indicate presence of bacteria that can cause health concerns.

The Mobile District and Lake Sidney Lanier are erring on the side of caution and closing Buford Dam Park for the whole weekend.

Update: Preliminary testing to reopen Buford Dam Park will begin on Monday.

For further information you can reach out to Lake Sidney Lanier Resource Office at (770) 945-9531.
