MOBILE, Ala. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District, in collaboration with the City of Selma, Dallas County Chamber of Commerce, and Tourism Information, is pleased to announce a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of the Selma Section 14 Emergency Streambank Stabilization Project.
The event will take place on July 8, at 10 a.m. at the Riverfront Amphitheater.
This project represents a significant effort to enhance the safety and stability of the riverbank, safeguarding the surrounding community and environment. Key improvements include re-grading the riverbank, installing articulated concrete matting, and adding protective stone elements to prevent erosion and stabilize the slope.
The project involved clearing, grading, and protecting a 215-foot section of the riverbank along the Alabama River and replacing approximately 250 feet of existing sidewalk, lighting, and fencing. All work was performed in accordance with the contract plans and specifications.
Media and the general public are invited to celebrate the continued efforts to protect and enhance the Selma community's natural resources.
