MOBILE, Ala. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District will release the draft feasibility report and integrated environmental assessment of the Claiborne and Millers Ferry Locks and Dams Fish Passage Study for public review and comment on May 1, 2023.
The purpose of the Claiborne and Millers Ferry Locks and Dams Feasibility Study and Integrated environmental assessment is to evaluate federal interest in establishing fish passage through restoring connectivity in the Alabama and Cahaba Rivers to address the impacts created by the dams.
This will directly address the loss of habitat connectivity for fish movement in the river system. Allow the river ecosystem to be resilient to external stressors within a certain range of natural variation, maintaining a self-sustaining condition of the ecosystem.
Questions and comments can be submitted to AlabamaFishPassage@usace.army.mil and should be received no later than May 31, 2023 or visit https://www.sam.usace.army.mil/Missions/Planning-Environmental/Claiborne-and-Millers-Ferry-Locks-and-Dams-Fish-Passage%20Study/ for more information.
