Payne Campground at Allatoona Lake to Remain Closed Until Further Notice

USACE, Mobile District
Published Feb. 15, 2022

MOBILE, Ala. – While most of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Allatoona Lake’s campgrounds are scheduled to reopen in March, Payne Campground will remain closed until further notice due to an aging septic system.

The aged septic system in this campground is failing due to a large increase in visitation over the last decade. Payne Ramp will continue to be open, and the closure will not affect the boat ramp and the associated restroom in that area.

The ability to make reservations for Payne Campground has ceased until further notice. The reopening of the campground is dependent upon receiving supplemental funding and developing a feasible solution to the issue.

All other campgrounds at Allatoona to include: McKaskey, Sweetwater, and Victoria will reopen in March. McKinney Campground, which is open year-round, will remain open to the public.
