USACE West Point Lake to Temporarily Close Project Areas for Army Training Exercise

MOBILE, Ala. – U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at West Point Lake will temporarily close several areas of the project to public access when it hosts a training exercise for the U.S. Army’s U.S. Army’s 507th Airborne and Ranger Training Brigade from Fort Benning, Georgia on May 14, 2021.

The following locations will be closed during the exercise:

  • The roadway crossing West Point Dam
  • Anderson Park
  • Powerhouse Road
  • The lower portion of West Point Lake from the dam, north, to river channel buoys 9 and 10

Additionally, the boat ramp area of Anderson Park will be closed on May 13, 2021 in preparation for the exercise.

Commuters who use the West Point Dam Roadway to cross between Georgia and Alabama will be required to use an alternate route as the dam roadway will be closed all day. Access to the lower portion of West Point Lake will be restricted during the exercise.

Soldiers will be posted at the entrance to the closed locations, while law enforcement agencies will provide security at the water-landing zone via patrol boats.
