MOBILE, Ala. -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at West Point Lake — in partnership with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 08-01 — will conduct a personal watercraft and boating safety course April 11, 2020, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. EST at the West Point Project Management Office in West Point, Georgia.
This free USCG Auxiliary course will provide information on legal requirements, navigation rules, preventing personal watercraft and boating accidents, and new boating laws.
A maximum of 25 participants can be accommodated for the course on a first come, first served basis. Pre-registration is necessary through the Georgia DNR’s website at www.gooutdoorsgeorgia.com.
Participants will receive a certificate from the Georgia DNR upon completion of this course. For Alabama residents, this certificate will exempt them from taking the written exam when obtaining an Alabama boating license. This course meets Georgia’s law that requires completion of a safe boating course for persons born after Jan. 1, 1998 who wish to operate a personal watercraft or boat without adult supervision. Students will also receive a free USACE Annual Day Use Pass upon completion of the course.

West Point Lake is a man-made reservoir impounded by the West Point Dam on the Chattahoochee River, authorized for flood control, hydroelectric power, navigation, fish and wildlife development and general recreation. Surrounded by deep forests and rolling fields extending 35 miles along the Chattahoochee River on the Alabama-Georgia state line, the lake has approximately 525 miles of shoreline and features a wide variety of recreation activities including fishing, camping and boating for public enjoyment.
