MOBILE, Ala. -- Abandoned docks are showing up all around Lake Sidney Lanier and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers seeks the community’s assistance with alerting Corps staff.
Abandoned docks:
- create a public hazard, potentially having loose boards, jagged metal, and exposed nails and screws
- diminish the natural beauty of Lake Lanier’s shoreline
- harm the environment as materials break down, entering the waters
- impact taxpayers due to costly removal and clean-up actions
Dock abandonment is dangerous and a burden to all taxpayers. The Corps is asking you to help stop this unacceptable activity, supporting our ongoing efforts to preserve the safety and beauty at Lake Lanier.
If you see something, say something. Suspicious activities can include:
- a dock being pushed across the lake
- private docks appearing on the shore of a public recreation area
- launching a dock into the water from a boat ramp
Please contact the Lake Lanier Project Office at 770-945-9531 or lakelaniershoreline@usace.army.mil to report abandoned docks and/or suspicious activities.
