MOBILE, Ala. -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Mobile District at Black Warrior and Tombigbee Lakes Project is scheduled to host its first Special Opportunity Hunt with archery-only deer hunting for disabled hunters Dec. 7 – 8, 2019, at Holt Resource Office’s Rocky Branch Day Use Area and Dec. 14 – 15, 2019, at Demopolis Resource Management Office. Hunting times will be Saturday from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Sunday from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
“We are excited to provide this opportunity for the first time to our disabled hunters,” said David White, a park ranger for the BWT Lakes Project and the event’s organizer.
This event is offered at no cost to disabled hunters. To qualify, an applicant is required to submit an application (link below). Approved hunters will be randomly selected based on a drawing from completed applications. Each hunter must possess a valid Alabama hunting license. A non-hunting assistant may accompany each disabled hunter. If hunters are 16 years old, or younger, they are required to have an adult hunting assistant 21 years or older. In addition, all hunters must bring their own equipment.

Each submitted application will be reviewed and assigned a number by the order it was received. The event organizer will select six application numbers using a random number generator. The selected hunters will be notified no later than Nov. 5, 2019, and required to attend an in-person meeting on Nov. 15, 2019 to cover regulations and draw for one of the designated hunting areas. Should any selected applicants decline, new hunters will be selected by a redraw from the remaining applications.
Ranger White concluded, “Our goal is to give everyone a fair chance at being selected because we can only accommodate a small amount of participants.”
