KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and city of Bessemer will host a public open house event to provide information on the Valley Creek Flood Risk Management Study and seek input from community members on June 19, 2019, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., at the Bessemer Civic Center, located at 1130 9th Avenue S.W., Bessemer, AL 35022.
The Corps of Engineers is partnering with the city of Bessemer to examine flood risk in the upper Valley Creek watershed. The study will identify and evaluate alternative solutions such as channel and bridge modifications, levees and floodwalls, in-stream and off-channel detention, and non-structural measures.
The study began in October 2018 and is currently initiating the evaluation of alternatives. A draft of the study findings is anticipated to be available for public review in October 2020. The study is expected to conclude by the end of 2021.
