Located only seven miles northwest of Meridian, Mississippi on Okatibbee Creek, Okatibbee Lake is an 11,000-acre multi-purpose project that was authorized by Congress in 1962 primarily for flood reduction.
Today, the beautiful waters of the lake and the surrounding forests provide excellent recreational opportunities including boating, fishing, camping, hunting, and enjoying the parks at any of the five parks maintained by USACE Mobile District.
Okatibbee Lake is home to one full service campground and four day-use parks with three designated swimming areas and four boat ramps. Presently there are 6,900 acres of land and flooded woodlands leased to the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks for hunting and wildlife viewing. Directly north of the lake is the state's Okatibbee State Wildlife Area. Visit Okatibbee’s webpage for more information: https://www.sam.usace.army.mil/Missions/Civil-Works/Recreation/Okatibbee-Lake/
