SOME RECREATION AREAS TO REMAIN CLOSED AT LAKE LANIER THROUGH MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND

US ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS MOBILE DISTRICT
Published May 21, 2019

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Mobile District at Lake Lanier will keep West Bank Day Use Park and Sawnee Campground closed to all public use and access — both land and water — for the upcoming Memorial Day holiday weekend.

USACE temporarily closed West Bank Park due to damage from heavy rains and flooding earlier in the spring. While repairs and construction continue, the park will remain closed to ensure public safety.  Its reopening will be announced at a later date.

Sawnee Campground will reopen on June 13, 2019, following its temporary closure due to limited staffing and lack of available park volunteers.

“The safety of all visitors to Lake Lanier is our priority,” said Chief Ranger Chris Arthur. “We have many other Day Use areas still available for recreation and encourage everyone to practice good water safety at all times.”
