WATER RELEASES AT CARTERS DAM DUE TO HIGH WATER LEVELS

Published March 4, 2019

MOBILE, Ala. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Mobile District's project site at Carters Lake is releasing normal, high-flow water on the Coosawatte River through the Carters Reregulation Dam, due to the main reservoir's high water level.

The current water level at Carters Dam, as of March 4, is 1099.6 feet above mean sea level (MSL). A normal water level is approximately 1072 MSL.

"Water releases are currently at approximately 5,000 cubic feet per second, according to James Hathorn, chief of water management for USACE Mobile District. “No significant impacts are anticipated downstream with current releases."

USACE Mobile District will continue to monitor forecasts and predictions provided by the National Weather Service. Water releases from Carters Dam will be adjusted as conditions are determined by possible heavy rainfall.
