MOBILE, Ala. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District, announced today that the West Point Lake Project Management Office in Georgia is scheduled to host two public workshops in May to officially begin the process to update the project’s Shoreline Management Plan.
The West Point Lake Shoreline Management Plan governs the use of the shoreline by adjacent property owners to promote safe and healthy public use of the shoreline, while conserving the lake’s natural resources for current and future generations.
The public workshops will be held at publicly accessible locations around the lake on May 7 and May 8. During each workshop, members of the project management team will be on-hand to provide background information to the public, to collect feedback and to answer questions.
Public Meetings:
May 7, 2018 5 – 8 p.m.
Mike Daniel Recreation Center, 1220 Lafayette Parkway, Lagrange, GA 30240
May 8, 2018 5 – 8 p.m.
West Point Train Depot, 500 3rd Avenue, West Point, GA 31833
The update will mark the first time in 25 years that the project is reviewing the entire Shoreline Management Plan. The current plan was finalized in 1993, with only minor updates occurring in 2004 and 2010.
The process to update the Shoreline Management Plan is expected to take approximately 2 years and will review the environmental impacts of proposed changes. Please note that comments and concerns about lake levels or water management are out of the scope of this SMP update and should be addressed with the Mobile District Public Affairs Office at (251) 690-2506 or by email at CESAM-PA@usace.army.mil.
