MOBILE, Ala. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District, announced today that they are in the initial stages to update the Master Plan at Lake Sidney Lanier in Buford, Ga. The Lake Lanier Master Plan is a comprehensive land and recreational management tool that guides the stewardship of natural and cultural resources and the provision of outdoor recreation facilities and opportunities at the project.
The update is expected to take approximately 2 years and will review current and future recreational needs and capacity at the project. The process will begin this fall with a Carrying Capacity Study and stakeholder focus groups.
Beginning next year, the Corps of Engineers will hold public meetings and conduct surveys to solicit feedback on proposed changes to the Master Plan.
Data collected during the Carrying Capacity Study will be documented in a Carrying Capacity Report and additional public meetings will be held to present the report’s findings. An updated draft Master Plan and Environmental Assessment will then be developed with a final update expected to be released in the summer of 2019.
