Published April 12, 2017

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District, announced today that West Point Dam Road and the R. Shaefer Heard Day Use Park at West Point Lake in Georgia are scheduled to close to all vehicular traffic from 5 p.m. April 22 until 2 p.m. April 23 (EST) for the 14th annual West Point Lake Triathlon.

In preparation for the event, the boat ramps at R. Shaefer Heard Day Use Park will close at 5 p.m. April 21 and will reopen following the conclusion of the triathlon. Closure of the facilities is necessary to ensure the safety and security of the triathlon participants.

The annual triathlon is scheduled to run from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 23. Members of the public planning on attending should arrive at the park no later than 7 a.m. for access to parking. Spectator vehicles will not be permitted into the area after that time.

The West Point Lake Project Office encourages individuals looking for alternative access to boat ramps or recreation facilities to visit Long Cane Park in Georgia or Anderson Park in Alabama.
