Published Jan. 25, 2017

MOBILE, Ala. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District (USACE), announced today that timber harvesting operations of selected timber stands around West Point Lake are scheduled to begin during the week of Jan. 30, 2017.  Each year, the USACE harvests several hundred acres of timber to promote the growth of desirable trees and plants, stimulate regeneration, and provide cover for wildlife habitats.

The timber areas selected for harvesting this year span approximately 693 acres across Troup County, Ga. and Chambers County, Ala.  The areas that are to be harvested include Maple Creek, Beech Creek, Wildlife Management Area, and Oakland Road.  Timber harvesting operations are scheduled to be completed by Oct. 1, 2017.
