Corps of Engineers to hold open house on Mobile Harbor study

MOBILE, Ala. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District, is scheduled to host an open house to update the public on the progress of the Mobile Harbor General Reevaluation Report and Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement.

WHAT: Open house to discuss ongoing study to determine the feasibility of increasing the width and depth of the Mobile Harbor Federal Navigation Channel

Background: In June 2014, the Alabama State Port Authority submitted a request to the Corps of Engineers to consider increasing the depth and width of the Mobile Harbor Channel. Following that request, the Mobile District began a four-year, $7.8 million comprehensive study to determine the costs, benefits and economic impacts of enlarging the channel. The results of the study will be documented in a General Reevaluation Report and Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement.
