West Point Project to conduct boundary inspection and maintenance

USACE, Mobile District
Published Oct. 31, 2024

MOBILE, Ala. –  The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, West Point Project, will begin inspecting and maintaining the government property line around the reservoir on Nov. 4.

The inspection includes inspecting the property line and re-painting it if it is faded. This process takes four months to cover the 330-mile property line, which is re-painted every five years to ensure that it is identifiable.

The project’s operations and maintenance contractor, East O&M, will maintain various sections of the West Point Project’s boundary line. Many subdivisions, neighborhoods, and major roads adjacent to public land around the lake may be affected, including areas near Chambers County 268, N State Line Rd., Rock Mills Rd., Abbotsford Rd., Antioch Rd., and Liberty Hill Rd.

Adjacent property owners may see crews working or walking on the public land behind their homes and/or properties. Work is scheduled to occur from November through February. The Corps would like to inform the public of this work so that residents are not alarmed.

In addition, USACE park rangers will inspect portions of the property line. They will inspect areas near Hwy 27, Cameron Mill Rd., Bridge Rd., and Young’s Mill Rd., including Grayson’s Landing, Crossings, River Club, Eagle’s Rest, Pineland Pointe, and Creek Ridge subdivisions. Rangers will be in uniform.

The Government property line is easily recognized by two red, horizontal stripes painted on trees on either side of the line when it is straight and three stripes painted on trees when the line turns. The line extends more than 330 miles around the West Point Project, encompassing 55,000 acres of publicly owned land and water.
