| The Tanks to Reef Program is an exceptional program of cooperation between federal and state agencies which added obsolete tanks to a one-thousand square mile artificial reef zone off the coast of Alabama The tanks were made environmentally safe before they were dropped. Obsolete tanks were donated to Alabama rather than being sold as scrap for $2,500 each. The artificial reefs are expected to increase the fish populations off the coast which will eventually show a gain in revenue in fishing. Over 100 tanks will make-up the reef. |
