LOWER POOL (Jim Woodruff Dam)

DESCRIPTION: The lower pool is below the Jim Woodruff Dam. The turbulent water and the abundance of shad attracts a variety birds. Walkways and handrails provide safe viewing. Spotting a frenzy of sea gulls just above the choppy water is a sure thing. Cormorants can be easily seen bobbing up and down the choppy water as it released from the dam. Canada geese and killdeer favor the nearby fields. This is a favorite area for fishermen. Hang around a little and you may witness a 25 pound hybrid striped bass being reeled in by a local fishermen.

WILDLIFE: Snowy egrets, belted king fishers, killdeer, bald eagles, double-crested cormorants, sea gulls and Canada geese, deer and fox.

DIRECTIONS: In the town of Chattahoochee, GA turn left off of Highway 90 west at the BP station. Follow the dirt road that leads underneath the Highway 90 bridge, about  1/8 mile.
