CUMMINGS LANDING
DESCRIPTION: Open stands of longleaf pine dominate this park. Prescribed fires are conducted for wildlife enhancement. Wiregrass, dispersed through out these woodlands, shares a symbiotic relationship with the longleaf pine community. Wiregrass is an important fuel source for the longleaf pine ecosystem. Without fire to control growth of other faster growing trees, this biologically rich ecosystem would not survive. Wiregrass provides habitat and protective cover for wildlife. A dirt road snakes among these stately trees providing wildlife viewers easy access. Vehicles are prohibited. Restrooms, picnic tables and a boat ramp are nearby.
Wildlife: Gopher Tortoise, raccoons, fox squirrels, towhees, warblers, woodpeckers, herons and egrets.
