Park Attendant Information

Volunteers at Lake Sidney Lanier are an integral part of our Business Functions (operations).  They provide services in three major areas: Recreation, Land Management and Education.  All of these categories combine to provide our visitors with a high level of customer satisfaction.

In Recreation, volunteers contribute needed assistance to our staff by providing the following to our visitors: Park Information, giving directions, making shelter reservations, selling annual passes and furnishing other general information.  This is done at the office, on park bulletin boards, at fairs & festivals and in the parks during our water safety programs.  Being provided with quick accurate information increases the visitors overall satisfaction.

Volunteers also work hard to improve the park’s aesthetics with cleanup efforts and wildlife management.  A clean park with wildlife viewing often adds to a visitor’s experience and overall satisfaction.

Volunteers also spend countless hours on Land Management Projects.  Adjacent landowners improve the shoreline and protect it from erosion.  Existing erosion and sedimentation problems are repaired by the land owners voluntarily with special permitted silt removal projects.

Volunteers have planted hundreds of trees and have improved habitat for bats, birds and wild game.  Land Management improvements help the environment and provide satisfaction to the park’s visitors.

Finally, but certainly not least, volunteers help with education.  We have an active water safety program that operates at many levels.  We also use volunteers and partners to assist in our water safety education. Volunteers drive a program that utilizes our stocked catfish pond.  The volunteers assist disadvantaged or disabled persons to fish in the pond.  Volunteers use this opportunity to educate people of all ages about environmental stewardship and to promote good public relations. As volunteers educate the public about the Corps of Engineers, the environment and water safety the visitors achieve a better understanding.  Better understanding creates a greater sense of customer satisfaction and a greater respect for public land.

If it were not for the dedication of volunteers at Lake Lanier, the project could not maintain its Business Functions as smoothly as it currently does.  Volunteers are dedicated to work at Lanier at several levels, all of which are aimed at maintaining high customer satisfaction.
