Camping

Camping reservations for campgrounds at Carters Lake can be made up to six months in advance by visiting Recreation.gov or by calling (877) 444-6777.  Campsite reservations can also be made by calling the campgrounds directly throughout the camping season. 

WOODRING BRANCH CAMPGROUND  (706) 276-6050     Woodring Branch Campground has forty-two campsites, thirty-one have electrical and water hookups, the remaining eleven sites are tent only sites. Facilities at Woodring Branch include, a comfort station with hot showers, boat ramp with dock, playground, camper dump station, and a volunteer host on duty. Check-in is by self check-in using your reservation information.  Campsites with hookups are $24.00 and $28.00 per site and $18.00 per site without hookups. Woodring Branch also has a separate primitive camping area with eleven sites. Woodring Branch Campground is located approximately four miles off Hwy 282 on the north side of the lake.

WOODRING BRANCH PRIMITIVE CAMPGROUND     Woodring Branch Primitive Campground features a 11-site campground with primitive spots that is open year-round. Campsites are $10.00 per site / per night on a first-come, first-served, no reservations. Camping fees are paid at the fee machine by credit card only. Primitive campground spots have access to toilets and drinking water at the toilet facility. 

DOLL MOUNTAIN CAMPGROUND  (706) 276-4413     Doll Mountain Campground has 65 campsites.  Thirty-nine sites have electrical and water hookups, the remaining 26 sites are tent only sites.  Facilities at Doll Mountain include: comfort stations with hot showers, boat ramp with dock, playground, camper dump station, and a volunteer host on duty.  Check-in is by self check-in using your reservation information. Campsites with hookups are $24.00 - $28.00 per site and $18.00 per night per site without hookups.  Doll Mountain Campground is located approximately three miles off Hwy 382 on the south side of the lake.

BOAT-IN / HIKE-IN CAMPGROUND     Boat-in/Hike-in camping provides twelve primitive campsites with tables, tent pads, and lantern holders. No trash collection is conducted, campers are expected to pack-in / pack-out with their trash.  Campsites are free and available year-round on a first-come-first-serve basis.  There are primitive toilets but no drinking water.  Boaters can tie up near their site and enjoy a waterfront site in a beautiful setting.  The campground is located on a peninsula east of Carters Dam.   Campers can also hike to sites from the Amadahy Trail that begins at the trail head parking lot on Woodring Branch road.  Distance to the campground from the trail head is approximately two miles one way.

BLUE SITE PRIMITIVE     Blue site primitive campsite is an additional primitive boat-in / hike-in campsite located on the upper Coosawattee River above Ridgeway Boat Ramp. This site has an open faced camping shelter, fire ring, and composting toilet. There is not trash service and campers are expected to pack-in / pack-out with their trash. The site is free and is first-come, first-served.
