                                                            Alabama River Lakes

GENERAL INFORMATION:

The Corps of Engineers, Mobile District welcomes you to the Alabama River Lakes Project. Located in south-central Alabama, Alabama River Lakes consists of 3 lakes: R.E. “Bob” Woodruff Lake, William “Bill” Dannelly Reservoir, and Claiborne Lake. Bob Woodruff Lake is located between Montgomery and Selma, Dannelly Reservoir is located between Selma and Camden, and Claiborne Lake is located between Camden and Monroeville. Project lands consists of approximately 9,465 acres developed for campgrounds, day use, operational areas for locks and dams, boat ramps, and other recreational uses including hunting. Approximately 5600 acres are open to hunting in 25 locations. They range in size from 40 to 500 acres.

Only crossbow, bow and arrow and shotguns are allowed to harvest game animals. RIFLES ARE NOT ALLOWED. Many areas have food plots annually planted to winter wheat, oats, and crimson clover. Please refer to the project brochure for the hunting area locations.

All hunters, regardless of age, must have a valid Alabama River Lakes wildlife use permit. The wildlife use permit is free of charge and issued online expiring September 1st. The permit is valid on all 3 lakes. Wildlife use permits may be obtained by printing a copy from the Alabama River Lakes website or in person. The Alabama River Lakes Site office is located 20 miles east of Selma on Highway 80 (7:00 am - 4:00 pm, Monday-Friday). The Millers Ferry Resource Office is located 9 miles northwest of Camden on Highway 28, near the Millers Ferry Lock and Dam (7:00 am - 4:00 pm, Monday-Friday). Campgrounds are seasonal so check the closing dates on the Alabama River Lakes camping webpage. Visit our website to view maps online. There will not be any maps sent by mail.

To obtain a wildlife use permit in person, a valid drivers license with your current address is required. If you do not possess a drivers license you may substitute a valid Alabama hunting license.

You must have a valid Alabama hunting license to hunt on Corps property. By signing your wildlife use permit you are agreeing to obey all regulations listed in this brochure. All applicable state laws are enforced on Corps of Engineers property. Special hunting regulations listed in this brochure further restrict hunting season dates or methods of harvest. Unless stated in the brochure, hunting season dates and limits follow state hunting regulations.

It is your responsibility to know the hunting regulations and game animals for the area you wish to hunt. Refer to the HUNTING AREAS section for details. Be aware of your location while hunting, and remember: you must get landowner permission to enter private land. It is your responsibility prior to hunting to study maps and scout out Government property authorized for hunting to insure that you know the exact boundaries. Your failure to stay within authorized hunting boundaries could void your permit for this year, and prohibit you from obtaining permits in the future. Watch for the Corps boundary line: 2 red stripes painted on trees. The red stripes face away from Corps property towards private land. Also, notice that Corps and state hunting regulations may change annually. Ask a Corps official for any new changes or updates.
