It is illegal to operate motorized vehicles (ATVs, dirt bikes, trucks, cars, etc.) off authorized roadways on U.S. Army Corps of Engineers property or beyond a restrictive sign, barricade, fence, or traffic control barrier (Section 327.2c, Title 36, Code of Federal Regulations). There are no areas authorized for off-road vehicle operation at Allatoona Lake.

Mountain bikes have become increasingly popular, but do not mix well with pedestrians on hiking trails. To provide a place for individuals to ride mountain bikes off-road the Southern Off-Road Bike Association (SORBA) has constructed an authorized mountain bike trail area at Allatoona Lake.
