Walter F. George Lock Closed

Published June 26, 2015

MOBILE, Ala. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Mobile District announced today that Walter F. George Lock will be closed to all commercial and recreational traffic effective immediately for repairs. The duration of this outage will be determined after an inspection in mid-July, but is expected to last at least through the month of July. The only exception will be for essential transit by U.S. Coast Guard or USACE vessels.

During this outage, commercial boaters may contact the Lockmaster at 229-723-3482 to request a lockage; the ability to accommodate will be determined at that time.  The lock will remain closed for all recreational traffic. This announcement does not affect George W. Andrews Lock on the Chattahoochee River or Jim Woodruff Lock located at Lake Seminole.

Questions or requests for information may be directed to the ACF Project Management Office at 334-232-4542.
