The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers was hosted at Bass Pro Shops across the country during National Safe Boating Week - May 18-24 - to promote water safety via “Wear IT Right” seminars. Mobile District held its seminar in Destin, FL May 19, spreading the message: "a life jacket can save your life if you 'Wear IT Right'."

Ranger Love-Jones toured the store and gave brief water safety tips to customers and handouts to kids.

Bass Pro Shop customers learned a child can drown in less than 30 seconds; an adult in 60 seconds, but it takes less than a minute to put on a life jacket.  According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 3,400 people drown on average every year in the United States.
