KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Kansas City and Mobile Districts of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) have published a joint public notice in the Federal Register on June 1, 2020, announcing release of the USACE draft integrated and environmental assessment for the Valley Creek Flood Risk Management Study in Jefferson County, Ala.
The Federal Register public notice also initiates a 30-day public and agency comment period, ending on July 1, 2020.
The draft report documents the Corps' analysis of alternative plans for reducing flood risk along Valley Creek in the Birmingham metropolitan area, including the municipalities of Fairfield, Midfield, Lipscomb, Brighton, Hueytown and Bessemer.
The draft report identifies the tentatively selected plan (TSP), which consists of three off-channel detention basins in the northern portion of the study area.
