MOBILE, Ala. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Mobile District’s Walter F. George Lake and Lake Seminole Projects have closed some recreation areas to assess and repair damage resulting from Hurricane Michael.
At WFG Lake, Abbey Creek Boat Ramp is closed through Friday, Oct. 19 and will reopen through the scheduled season.
Lake Seminole has closed all recreation areas until further notice. Reservations for East Bank Campground should be made for dates occurring after Dec. 31, pending cleanup efforts, at https://www.recreation.gov/
“Our team has remained flexible and positive throughout the ordeal,” said Terrell Stoves, site manager at WFG Lake Project Office. “I’m proud of the quick and selfless response of our staff that were able to return to work on Thursday despite dangerous conditions as they worked to return our project to normal.”
Mobile District operates 275 recreation areas located throughout various projects in Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Mississippi. These recreation areas host more than 27.5 million visitors annually. It is estimated these recreation assets result in a $617 million impact to local communities.
